What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India's national rooftop solar scheme, launched in February 2024 with an outlay of over ₹75,000 crore. Its goal is to enable one crore households to generate their own electricity and receive up to 300 free units of power every month.
The scheme provides a Central Financial Assistance (CFA) directly to the consumer's bank account after the rooftop plant is installed and connected to the grid through a net meter. It applies to grid-connected residential rooftop systems installed by vendors registered on the National Portal — including Ayan Solar Energy.
For Gujarat households, the central subsidy combined with the state's strong net-metering policy makes rooftop solar one of the safest investments available today, with typical payback between 3 and 5 years and a plant life of 25 years or more.
Subsidy amounts by system size
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kW, and a maximum cap of ₹78,000.

Group housing societies (GHS/RWA): ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities including lifts, water pumps and corridor lighting, up to 500 kW capacity, calculated at 3 kW per house.
Who is eligible?
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- You must own a house with a roof suitable for solar panels.
- You must have a valid domestic electricity connection in your own name.
- You must not have availed any other subsidy for a rooftop solar plant before.
- The system must be grid-connected with net metering (off-grid systems are not eligible).
- Installation must be carried out by a vendor registered on the National Portal.
Step-by-step application process

Register on the National Portal
Create an account on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your state, DISCOM, consumer number, mobile number and email.

Apply for rooftop solar
Log in and submit the rooftop solar application form with your consumer details and proposed capacity.

Wait for DISCOM feasibility approval
Your DISCOM checks the transformer capacity and sanctioned load, and issues technical feasibility approval.

Install through a registered vendor
Installation must be done by a vendor registered on the portal. Ayan Solar Energy is a registered installer.

Apply for net metering
After installation, submit the plant details and apply for the bi-directional net meter through the portal.

Inspection & commissioning certificate
The DISCOM installs and tests the net meter, inspects the plant and generates the commissioning certificate.

Submit bank details for subsidy
Upload a cancelled cheque or bank passbook copy on the portal along with the commissioning certificate.

Subsidy credited to your account
The subsidy amount is transferred directly to your bank account, typically within 30 to 45 days of commissioning.

- Proof of ownership of the premises (index copy / property tax bill)

- For societies: registration certificate, society PAN and managing committee resolution
